IRC java applet has been tested with Netscape 4.0, IE4.0, Thunderbird and Opera and probably works with most other browsers.

Java IRC Chat -- opens a 1024x768 window
Java IRC Chat -- opens a 800x600 window
Java IRC Chat -- opens a 640x480 window

Logging on:

Logging on is automatic, though your browser may give you a certificate warning. The developer who wrote this little application put his own certificate on it. It's fine, just go ahead and choose yes or ok, depending up on your browser, to accept the valid certificate. If you don't have Java installed or enabled, there may be a request to install the Java Runtime plugin for your browser. Once again, this is standard and there are many Internet applications that require Java so it's okay to install this plugin.

A "screen name" will automatically be assigned to you as "Starlordnnn", where "nnn" means a random number, but you may prefer to use your Imperial Wars screen name or some other name if you want to. Once you are logged in, just type "/nick (and type your new name here)", no quotes of course.

Once you have determined which size IRC Chat window fits your screen best and you have successfully entered the IWars chat, you can bookmark this page and automatically and easily return to the Imperial Wars Senate easily.

Getting an IRC dedicated client:

This is a very nice little application but If you want a more versatile connection or if you are a veteran IRC user, and would like to use a dedicated IRC client, try the mIRC Homepage, one of the most popular IRC chat clients around. No matter what client you use, the table below contains the information you need to establish a connection with your dedicated IRC client:. We are unable to recommend a good Mac IRC client yet, but if you find one you like, send us the link and we'll put it in here.

Imperial Wars on the Internet Relay Chat.

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. The IRC network is older than the World Wide Web. It is a virtual meeting place where people from all over the world can meet and talk (errr, type). On the IRC you connect with others in chat "channels" or virtual rooms, usually defined by a particular topic) to talk in groups, or privately. There is no restriction to the number of people that can participate in a given discussion, or the number of channels that can be formed on IRC. As a user you run a "client" program which connects to a "server" in an IRC network. All servers are interconnected and pass messages from user to user over the IRC network. One server can be connected to several other servers and up to hundreds of clients.

SorceryNet's European IRC servers host our chat channel Iwars.
